The Giving Tree Band

The Giving Tree Band is a group of earth-friendly,songwriting multi-instrumentalists. Their music is all acoustic with passionate lyrics, intricate vocal harmonies, and creative arrangements for a wide variety of instruments- from guitar, banjo, and mandolin to ukulele, dobro, and harmonium. The Giving Tree Band is currently producing a carbon neutral album using only renewable energy. Recording for this album will take place at the Aldo Leopold Legacy Center in Baraboo, WI.

The Leopold Center is a solar-powered facility and the first certified carbon neutral building by the LEED program of the US Green Building Council. CD's will be manufactured with wind energy, packaged with recycled paperboard cases, and shrink-wrapped in biodegradable corn cellulose. The band performs with eco-friendly instruments and supports numerous charities and non-profit organizations with their concerts and recording. The Northside Southpaws

The Northside Southpaws are an entirely unique mandolin/guitar duo who perform obsolete ragtime, archaic country, proto-grass, and other obscure string band music on left-handed resonator instruments. Mandolin Magazine has called their debut cd, STOMP GLIDE WOBBLE, "...one of the best mandolin CDs of the year, filled with an unspoiled sound and infectious enthusiasm that will win over fans from bluegrass, jazz and swing, blues and other styles" (Spring 2008). http://northsidesouthpaws.com/

Elisabeth Blair

Motherlode

Motherlode, from Charleston, Illinois, is comprised of Althea Pendergast, Gaye Harrison, and Wendy Meyer. Playing together for twenty years, Motherlode performs just about everything under the sun, including folk, celtic, country, blues, and pop music.  You name it, they do it, always with grace and style. Their playing settings are as versatile as the women themselves. Motherlode has played on the State Capitol steps, at music festivals, nursing homes, weddings, nightclubs and even funerals and they have played from Portland to Arkansas to Chicago.  Harrison wows people with her fine fiddle and mandolin solos.  Pendergast adds her strong voice and base fiddle and Meyer kicks in rhythm guitar and harmonies. These women enjoy working together and get carried away by their music! They pride themselves on involving their audiences and providing a fun and entertaining time for anyone listening. Old time Country and Blues Revue

Their website reports: "We sit around and play music and smile a lot -- we play music that we learned 30 years ago when it was 'cool'. . . Some of it was old music then and it's all older now, but it's still 'cool'! We play music that was written last year. . . we play songs that you might have heard growing up and totally forgotten about. . . We do music ranging from Tin Pan Alley, Old-Timey, Blues, Ragtime, Bluegrass, traditional Country and home-grown songs. We don't do 'Free Bird'. We play to have a good time. We change a lot of strings, as between us we play acoustic guitars, National guitars, mandolin, banjo, and resonator guitar. We find that changing strings is a good time as well!"
